The Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado is a two-year, hospital-based program. It is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) until 2021.
The Pediatric Dental Center and Children's Colorado are the teaching sites for the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. The Dental Center also houses the Healthy Smiles and the Cavity-Free-at-Three Clinics, both of which are sites for the clinical training of pre-doctoral dental students from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Faculty members, residents and pre-doctoral dental students serve more than 35,000 patients each year. The core curriculum of the residency program includes all subject matters that are indispensable for the development of a competent pediatric dentist. They range from educational experiences that enhance critical and independent thinking to practical clinical skills, as well as accurate and effective communication with physicians, dental colleagues and parents.
In December 2014, the program was reaccredited without reporting requirements after a site visit by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA). The next accreditation will be in 2021.
Our Dental Center staff, recognized on all levels as experts in pediatric dentistry, focus on minimizing the emotional, physical and psychological barriers patients face when seeking routine oral healthcare services.
The Dental Center is an integral part of the ambulatory care service of the hospital. The modern resident clinic has 23 operatories. They are embedded in a complete infrastructure that includes provider work areas, faculty stations and an adjoining administrative suite.
