Meet the Chaplains at Children's Hospital Colorado

Krysta Baglien, M.Div.

Krysta Baglien received her Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School in 2012 and moved to Denver to start her Clinical Pastoral Education residency at Swedish Medical Center. After working in hospice for two years and as a PRN chaplain at Children’s Colorado, Krysta became a full-time staff chaplain for Children’s in 2015. She provides emotional and spiritual support to patients, families and staff through ritual, listening, story-telling, presence, prayer, and other spiritual and religious resources. Krysta also serves on the hospital Palliative Care Committee and R.E.S.T Council.


Paul Griego, M. Div.

Paul Griego received his Master of Divinity degree at the Iliff School of Theology and began his work as a Chaplain at Children's Hospital Colorado in October of 2012. Paul finds great joy and purpose in serving patients, their families and staff in a variety of different settings with particular energy behind engaging prayer, breathing exercises, rituals and inclusion of all people. Paul also is a Hybrid Cochlear Implant user, a surgically implanted device that provides a sense of sound to people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, with a strong passion for serving the Deaf Hard of Hearing community here at Children's Hospital Colorado.


Barbara W. Lepke-Sims, M.M., C.M.P.

Certified Music Practitioner
Harpist Barbara W. Lepke-Sims has been playing live therapeutic music by the bedside for patients, families and staff. Barb concentrates on playing for patients and families in the ICU units including the NICU, PICU and CICU as well as other areas of the hospital, as needed. Barbara is an integral part of the Spiritual Care team. One may request her services by contacting the Spiritual Care department at 720-777-6325. Barbara holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and is a Certified Music Practitioner and Colorado Area Coordinator for the Music for Healing and Transition Program (MHTP). Barbara finds that creating a healing environment for patients, families and staff is meaningful and rewarding.

Sara Reynolds, M. Div.

Sara Reynolds joined the Spiritual Care team in August 2015 as a full time staff chaplain. Sara is originally from Smithfield, Virginia and received her Master of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University School of Divinity in North Carolina. After completing her graduate studies, Sara moved to Houston, Texas to complete her chaplain residency in the medical center at Memorial Hermann. It was there that Sara realized her passion for working with children and their families in the hospital setting. She provides spiritual care to children, families, and staff in a variety ways, particularly through presence, prayer, story, and other spiritual and religious resources.

Josh Whistler, M.Div.

Josh Whistler began working at Children's Colorado as an intern in the Spiritual Care Department in 2009. The following year he continued at Children's Colorado as a Fellow in partnership with University of Colorado Hospital. Now, as a full-time staff chaplain, he provides spiritual care to children, families, and staff through prayer, listening, religious rites, and providing other religious and spiritual resources. Josh also serves on the hospital Ethics Committee and the R.E.S.T. Council.

Bereavement coordinator

Cassie Matz
Cassie Matz has been the Bereavement Coordinator at Children’s Colorado since April 2014. She graduated with a Masters of Social Work from Colorado State University in 2010, and previously worked in community mental health and child welfare. Cassie finds great professional purpose in working alongside grieving families, facilitating parent grief support groups and planning supportive events, such as Memorial Quilting. She also heads the Bereavement Council at the hospital. Cassie spent most of her childhood in the Denver area (by way of Long Island, New York). She enjoys hiking, the mountains, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
